Mother Nature did not mess around.
We own a house at the Jersey Shore, and last week's storm hit hard, so we drove down to check on it. The beach took a beating, but luckily the house came through with no damage.
I was more relieved than I expected to be.
When we purchased the house, it came furnished. We changed out a few pieces of art, but we set it up with renters in mind. It looked great, and the renters were happy. But over time, I realized I wasn't happy. Why do I own, and spend a good deal of time in, a house decorated for someone else to enjoy?
So slowly, we've been adding our personality into it. This past year, we nailed it. It started with one piece of art, and it transformed the living space beautifully.
Now we're even thinking about giving it a name. The Captain and His Catch. Our nod to the ocean. After last week, it seems smart to stay on her good side.

THE FEATURE
Who Said Anything About Retiring?
Six years at the agency, then she walked out the door. Her old coworkers hug her like she might break. She has a company, a nonprofit and six dogs waiting.
THE REFLECTION
“No, I've Got It.”
Tight chest, late leaving work, dinner guest at six. She could ask for help with all of it. She asks someone to cut the watermelon.
I Already Caved.
Bought a bag of mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups for Halloween, with no intention of it being around for trick-or-treaters.
THE WILDCARD
Why Do Older Movies Look Faster.
Everyone in a silent film seems to be late for something. Part of that was the camera. Part of it was theater owners with tickets to sell.
My answer:
Hosting. No one can help because it's all in my head. And I'm too busy to stop and tell anyone how to help. Self-inflicted chaos.
