When a friend you love asks if you play golf, the answer is, “Not yet.”

That’s how I ended up on a golf course with her Monday afternoon. My second time ever.

Was I good? Of course not. But I tried my best, and she cheered every shot. Even the bad ones. Especially the bad ones.

Did I make a golf faux pas? Yes. A ball rolled into our path, and I instinctively picked it up. It belonged to a golfer who was very much still playing it.

Oh, we had a good long laugh about that.

I’ll keep showing up. She’ll keep cheering. Next time, I’m leaving the strays alone.

THE FEATURE

Step, Step, Glide.

Forty years since she’d skated. First lesson, she was clinging to the wall and plotting her exit. Then the 80-something instructor glided over.

THE REFLECTION

The Friend I Almost Gave Up On, and the One Who Never Showed.

One friend went weeks without writing back. Another couldn’t wait to make plans. She thought she knew how both would turn out.

The Pillow Count.

Blame @louiburke. One scroll through his feed and I counted the pillows on my bed. Your turn. How many are on yours? No judgment. Just curious.
